Sound Madrid´s victory in the Cup, beating Barcelona 4-0. Barcelona was favourite. Molowny coached the white team, having replaced Miguel Muñoz, who left the Club after 25 years with no interruptions at the service of the Club.

Another gifted one in Spanish soccer says good-bye to soccer: Amancio Amaro, The Sorcerer. Madrid beat Peñarol 2-0 in a match that was played to honour the man of the three "G": great, genius, and Galician.

Real Madrid wins the 7th European Cup by beating Juventus 1-0 in the final played at the Amsterdam Arena. The winning goal was scored by Pedja Mijatovic.

December 1998

Real Madrid achieves its second Intercontinental Cup by beating Vasco de Gama 2-1 at the final played at the Olympic Stadium of Tokyo (Japan). Roberto Carlos with the help of brazilian goalkeeper Naza- and Raúl were the scorers of Madrid.

May 2000

Real Madrid wins its 8th European Cup by beating Valencia 3-0 at the final played ant the Saint Denis Stadium in Paris, the first final played by two squads from the same country.

June 2000

Florentino Pérez is elected president of Real Madrid at the elections for the Presidency of the Club that took place on a day with a big turnout of the Members of the Real Madrid. The opponent candidates were Florentino Pérez and /b>.

November 2000

Alfredo Di Stéfano is appointed Honour President of the Real Madrid. The General Assembly of Delegate Members ratifies the President's proposal made by the Works Council, whose president is Florentino Pérez.

December 2000

The FIFA give to the Real Madrid the title of Best Club of the XX Century. Florentino Pérez and Alfredo Di Stéfano collected the prize from the president of the FIFA, Joseph Blatter.

December 2001

The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium is decked out with bunting when Luis Figo received the Golden Ball Award from the president of the FIFA, Joseph Blatter. Among the present some legend players that won this award, such as Di Stéfano, Kopa, Suárez, Bobby Charlton and Eusebio. Luis Figo is the third player from Real Madrid that gets this award after Di Stéfano, who obtained it in two occasions, and Kopa.
